Who is
Namcil Clark ??
Block 37 Lot 22 is a well known location at Oakwood Cemetary but it is also the site of a bit of mystery. It is well known due to the fact it is the location of the first burial in 1826. Catherine Clark the first resident of Oakwood is accompanied by her Father John Clark who also happens to be the first veteran to be interred here and her Step mother Sally Swain Clark on the south end of this lot but at the north end there is a tall stone which mark the grave of Nancil Clark recording a death date of 1 28-1878 at which time he had attained the age of 68 years
A search of the available Clark Family history does not contain any information on a Nancil Clark, however, there is listed a Nelson Clark who was a son of John and a brother of Catherine. Also of interest is the fact that Lot 22 is designated on an early plot map as being the property of Nelson Clark. This bit of information leads one to wonder if there was perhaps a misprint in the records or possibly an error when the stone was engraved. Also a contingency to be considered. that of Nancil being the equivalent of Nelson in some other language.
Considering the sometimes doubtful accuracy of earl records and the mistakes in engraving which have come to light from that period anything is possible
If any of our reader can help with a solution to this puzzle their input would be greatly appreciated. For the present it must remain part of the mystic of Oakwood Cemetery.

Good News ! ! ! On Monday December 8th a meeting was held at the Wyandotte Museum to try and
solve the water problem at Oakwood Cemetery. Attending this meeting was Hitesh Rajdev proving that
contrary to belief he was not an answering machine but a real live caring person. Mr. Rajdev was
accompanied by John Gerlach also from BASF and the concern shown by these men was in keeping with that of BASF for environmental situations. Representing the Historical Society were Marc Partin, Yvonne Latta and Ken Navarre. The Veteran's group was represented by Bob Wilson Cmdr. VFW Post 1888 and Don Hedger Sr. Vice Cmdr. Vim' Post 10168 from the Veterans Memorial Fund.
After a thorough discussion of the problem and its effects it was decided the first step should be to have a survey done to obtain a contour map to ascertain the best way to relieve the situation and since this is an expensive proposition, BASF expressed their willingness to assist with the finances there by making this possible.
When this survey has been completed and the site map is in hand there will be another meeting forthcoming with hopes of a possible solution of this very vexing problem
As always we will keep you informed of the progress made
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
